If you are taking music lessons, you already know you have to practice. But do you know how? Our check list will help you make the most of every session! It starts as soon as you get home from your guitar lesson (or piano lesson, drum lesson, singing lesson etc):
Set everything up AS SOON AS you get home. Take your guitar out of the case, set it on a stand next to your usual practice chair. Have your music open on the music stand at the pages you are working on. Set up any other equipment you use within easy reach of your chair.
Aim for 2 short practice sessions a day. Start with ten minutes, build to 30 minutes or more for each session.
Break the session into 3 sections: a. New material. b. Revision. c. Reward - play something old that you can play really well.
Every 15 minutes, stand up, stretch, move around and clear your head.
Before you end the session, record yourself so you can watch it back and really hear where your strengths lie, but also areas you need to work on.
BONUS TIP: Leave your phone in another room! If you are on call or need to be reached, leave it face down on the other side of the room and out of reach. Scrolling is the death of your music career!
